The Therapy Lounge review

The Client

The Therapy Lounge is a private mental health practice. Like any practice, their business model boils down to one thing: getting a steady, predictable stream of new patient inquiries.

No leads, no growth. Simple as that.

The Brief

They needed a lead gen engine from paid ads that actually made money (a decent ROAS). But the problem being that they’re in the mental health sector.

This is the big one. Google and Meta aren't huge fans of this category - and with good reason. It didn't sit particularly well when devising our targeting strategy butultimately our client is thertohelp and they have some of the best reviews in the business.

The ad platforms policies are a minefield, it feels like you’re guilty until proven innocent, and even then, your ads get disapproved for breathing wrong.

The Approach

In a sensitive industry, you don't fight the platforms. You out-think them.

We reverse-engineered the entire strategy to be 100% compliant from the ground up. This wasn't about "trying" to get ads approved; it was about building a system that was designed to not fail.

The plan: hit high-intent users on Google (people actively searching for help) and then use smart, policy-safe retargeting on Meta to nurture the ones who were curious but not ready to commit.

Technical Implementation

The Therapy Lounge got a full-scale advertising and tracking solution built to handle the chaos of the mental health sector.

  • Profitable Google Ads Management: We didn't just buy traffic. We launched granular campaigns looking for high-intent keywords only. We optimised for profit, not just clicks.
  • Advanced Conversion Tracking: We implemented a proper tracking infrastructure so every single pound was measurable. We plugged in our custom user journey tool, giving the client session-by-session data. They could literally watch how users navigated the site before converting. No more guessing.
  • Custom Ad Policy Workarounds: This was the key. We built a whole framework of ad creatives, copy, and landing pages that flew right under the policy radar. We got ads running effectively.
  • Sophisticated Meta Retargeting Funnels: We built multi-step funnels on Meta to re-engage anyone who visited the site but weren't ready. This wasn't spammy, it was a careful, policy-compliant nurture sequence that built trust and gently guided them back to booking.

Results & Impact

  • Achieved a consistent 3x Return on Ad Spend (ROAS) from Google Ads.
  • Generated a steady, predictable stream of qualified patient leads from the Meta funnels.
  • Zero account shutdowns. By building for compliance, we gave them a sustainable, long-term growth channel that their competitors can't even access.
  • The practice was left with a profitable and, most importantly, scalable client acquisition machine.
  • We fixed their data. The client could finally see the entire conversion path, not just the last click. This insight into real user behaviour is what lets them keep improving. They stopped guessing what worked and started knowing.

Why It Worked

This whole project came down to a three-part strategy that balanced their growth goals with the platform's messy rules.

  • We Solved the Compliance Nightmare. This was the biggest win. Most agencies fight the policies and get banned. We built a creative, compliant workaround from the start. This unlocked a scalable channel that was totally off-limits to them before.
  • We Chased Profit, Not Clicks. A relentless focus on profitability. Clicks are a vanity metric. We used our advanced tracking to look for high-intent keywords and optimise for actual, paying conversions. That’s where the 3x ROAS came from.
  • We Nurtured a High-Friction Decision. To be clear, choosing a therapist isn't like buying a t-shirt. It's personal. People hesitate. Our Meta funnel respected that. It stayed top-of-mind, built trust, and gave them a gentle nudge when they were ready. It maximised the value of every single click we paid for and turned "maybes" into clients.

Common inquiries about the case study

What is Cloudflare's Web Application Firewall and how does it work?

Cloudflare's Web Application Firewall (WAF) is an intelligent security layer that filters malicious HTTP traffic using real-time threat detection, customizable security rules, and protection against OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities.

What’s the difference between a marketing strategy and a marketing plan?

A marketing strategy is the big-picture direction, it's your goals, your brand positioning, and your approach. A marketing plan is the tactical execution -what you’ll do, when, and how. Both are essential, and we have project managers and big picture thinkers in house to help you with both.

How do you measure the success of a paid marketing campaign?

Success is measured using key performance indicators (KPIs) like cost per acquisition (CPA), click-through rate (CTR), return on ad spend (ROAS), and overall conversions. We set clear goals at the start, track every metric, and provide transparent reporting. Our focus is always on delivering measurable business outcomes, not just vanity metrics.

How does Google Gemini compare to ChatGPT for content creation?

How do you measure ROI from LinkedIn marketing campaigns?

How do you create effective LinkedIn ad campaigns for lead generation?

LinkedIn lead generation campaigns combine precise professional targeting with compelling business value propositions that address real challenges facing your target audience.

Our funnel management service includes LinkedIn campaign setup and optimisation for maximum B2B conversion rates.

How do you develop a content strategy for my business?

We need to understand your audience, sector, competitors and brand positioning. We then map the content you have to the user journey and identify gaps. We determine the highest priority content, how it should be consumed and create a calendar. From here it's about execution.

What’s the difference between paid search and paid social campaigns?

Paid search (like Google Ads) targets users actively searching for products or services, making it intent-driven. Paid social (like Facebook or Instagram ads) targets users based on interests, demographics, and behaviors, often reaching them earlier in the buying journey. Both have unique strengths—paid search captures demand, while paid social builds awareness and nurtures leads. We often recommend a mix for full-funnel impact.
