Squarespace to Shopify migration, with the domain moved last and safely
Squarespace exports less than it looks like it does: one blog, no store pages, and reviews stay behind. We take the product CSV and the content export, rebuild the rest, move your customers and past orders, and map every old URL before the domain moves. We move your products, customers, orders and blog from Squarespace to Shopify, and map every old address first.

Teams we've worked with
Six things we plan for
Squarespace exports a lot less than it looks like it does, so we find the gaps before you launch.
The content export is partial
Squarespace exports content only in a WordPress-format XML file, and it leaves out store pages, product blocks, video and audio blocks, drafts, style settings and custom CSS. We use it where it helps and rebuild the rest from the live site.
Only one blog comes out
The export covers one blog page, and up to 1,000 comments per post. If you run more than one blog, we rebuild the others by hand and keep each post's URL in the redirect map.
Weights import wrong
Shopify's template wants grams, and Squarespace weights need converting from pounds by multiplying by 453.6. Products with missing variant options may fail to import. We check both before the import.
Old links break
Shopify's page URLs often differ from Squarespace's. Its own example is a shipping policy moving from /policies/shipping-policy to /pages/shipping-policy. And Shopify only redirects URLs that are broken. We set the redirects up before the domain moves and test them.
Reviews and some orders stay behind
Shopify's guide says reviews can't be exported or migrated from Squarespace. You can export fulfilled orders as CSV, but Shopify points to import apps to bring orders in. We plan both.
SSL errors at the domain move
Shopify says to disconnect the domain from the previous platform before transferring it, or you may see SSL certificate errors. We sequence it.
Everything that can move, moved properly
We take the export where it's good and rebuild where it isn't, then check the lot against your live site.
Products and variants
Squarespace's Export all, edited to Shopify's template (the product URL becomes the handle), then imported unpublished and checked.
Customers
Exported as contacts, edited to match Shopify's headings exactly, because Shopify has no data mapping for customer CSVs.
Order history
Fulfilled orders exported, then imported with an app from the Shopify App Store, tested on a small batch first.
Blog and pages
Layout pages, one blog and its text and image blocks come out in the export. We rebuild them as Shopify blog posts and pages and check each against the old one.
A redirect map
Every Squarespace URL mapped to its Shopify page and loaded as a CSV before the domain moves.
Domain moved safely
Disconnected from Squarespace first, then connected to Shopify.
Forms and tracking
Squarespace forms rebuilt and tested, with GA4, Google Ads and Meta checked with a test purchase.
Payments, shipping and tax
Set up on Shopify and tested through checkout before launch.
What we connect Shopify to
Once Shopify is live, these are the tools wired to it, and what passes along each connection.
Purchases are what your ads learn from. After the move we report each order from the server as well as the browser, and compare a test order in GA4 with Shopify.
Who this is for
For you if
- You've outgrown Squarespace Commerce and want Shopify to run the shop.
- Your blog and product pages bring in search traffic.
- You'd like the old and new site compared page by page before launch.
Not for you if
- Your Squarespace shop is small and working. We'd rather say so than move you for the sake of it.
- You want the whole site moved by one export button. Squarespace doesn't offer one, and we'll show you why.
- You want to move onto WordPress. We only move sites off it.
What changes when you move
They hold and release your content in different ways.
| What matters | Squarespace | |
|---|---|---|
| Content export | Imports products and customers by CSV, blogs and pages by app or API. | WordPress-format XML only: layout pages, one blog, text and image blocks. No store pages or drafts. |
| Product export | Imports from CSV, up to 15 MB per file. | Export all or Export selected from the Products panel, weights in pounds. |
| Redirects | URL redirects with CSV import, up to 100,000 on a standard store, only for broken URLs. | URL mappings of the form /old -> /new 301, in a field of about 2,500 lines, working only if the old page is deleted or disabled. |
| Reviews | Added again through a review app. | Can't be exported or migrated to Shopify. |
| Orders | Imported with an app. | Fulfilled orders export as CSV. |

What happens after you get in touch
Short call
You tell us how many products you sell, how many blogs you run, and whether you take subscriptions or reviews.
Export and crawl
We run the product and content exports, export customers and fulfilled orders, and crawl the live site for what the exports miss.
Write the plan
You get what moves by export, what we rebuild by hand, the review and order routes, and a timeline in writing, before we start.
Import and test
Products go in unpublished and are checked, then customers and orders, then a test order through checkout.
Move the domain and watch
Redirects are ready first, the domain moves last, and we check Search Console and orders every day for two weeks.
On your move we check weights and variants against your old catalogue, run a test order through checkout, and test every redirect before the domain moves.
Ask us on the call what Squarespace's export will leave behind on yours.
Questions people ask before booking
Straight answers, so you know what to expect.
Still have a question?
Book a callWhat happens to our rankings after the move?
We map every old address, send the new sitemap to Google, and check Search Console daily for two weeks. If a page is excluded, we fix that cause and request indexing.
Can I just use Squarespace's export?
Partly. It produces a WordPress-format XML file with your layout pages, one blog and your text and image blocks, but not store pages, products, drafts or custom CSS. Products come out separately as a CSV. We use both and rebuild the rest.
I have two blogs. What happens?
The export only covers one blog page, so we rebuild the other by hand and redirect every post.
Will we lose our rankings?
We can't promise they won't move, and nobody honest can. Google says to expect temporary fluctuation. We map every URL, use permanent redirects and check Search Console daily for two weeks.
Do reviews come across?
No. Shopify's guide says they can't be exported or migrated from Squarespace. If they matter, we add them back through a review app.
Do you move the domain too?
Yes, last. Shopify says to disconnect it from Squarespace first, or you may see SSL errors.
How long does it take?
A Squarespace to Shopify migration used to take months. Now it can take weeks, or even days. The biggest factor is how quickly your team can review the work and give feedback. You'll see the timeline in the written plan before we start.
Tell us about your Squarespace store.
How many products, how many blogs, and whether reviews or subscriptions matter to you.
- You'll talk to Ben or Cam, the people who do the work.
- We'll reply within one working day.
