Migrations might be a pain, but longer term they're worth it.
You've probably been sent this link by someone at Pacing and likely don't want to read a whole blog about it.
No problem, below are the highlights and if you want to know more, below the below is more info.
Great, so here's a little more detail.
Plugins are pieces of code you add to a website to integrate a feature you want, they're built by different companies who will all have slightly different ways of doing things.
So, when you start adding lot's of plugins, the code becomes more difficult to read because you're adding lot's of different pieces of code on top of each other, which takes CPUs longer to load.
Some of these plugins also don't play nicely together, it's not uncommon to install once, only for you to find another is broken.
The lack of plugins therefore makes your websites code cleaner, which as we've just mentioned, speeds up your site but it also makes it easier for crawlers (like Google or ChatGPT) to crawl your site and find the content they're looking for quicker.
This means it's quicker for them to give the user the information they're looking for. And when you make Google's life easier, Google tends to reward you by ranking your content higher.
If an agency manages your website, a cleaner code also makes it easier to move between agencies if you're not satisfied with your current one. Trying to decipher a wordpress site with loads of plugins takes a long time, and ultumately you're paying agencies for their time. So that move to a new agency is going to be more expensive.
Webflow designs are way more responsive. If you have an old Wordpress site, I bet it's not very responsive on mobile, which as I'm sure you know, is where most people are probably looking at your website. (Obviously this will depend on who you are and what you offer but I wanted to sound authoratative...).
Webflow allows you to easily see how your website looks on all devices and then allows you to edit to make sure it's responsive on each one.
The staging site is so much easier to use and it means your more junior colleagues can easily test out designs or content changes without doing it live on the site. You can review their work in a safe environment, which is often difficult to find when using Wordpress. This easy QA level helps reduce errors on your live site and keeps everyone happy.
It also ties your staging and live site closer together. It's so annoying when you're making edits to a staging site, only to find that the staging site hasn't been updated in ages. You now find yourself comparing the live site, the old staging and your edits to figure out what content is meant to go where.
You normally have three things you need to manage when you run a website:
With Wordpress, these are more often than not in three different locations, meaning three different logins.
Admittedly using Webflow, this is only reduced to two but still two is better than three. We also recommend our clients use Cloudflare to house domains because (in our optinion) it's the best platform on the market and also looks after your websites load performance, security, and offers a reliable service (we've not had a site go down with it yet).
We won't be able to tell you about these features as well as Webflow do but we can say that they have made our lives and our clients lives considerably easier.
This is ripped from Webflow, so is always going to be more favourable but we also stand by this. Trust us? Trust Webflow.
Yes, nothing's perfect.
When you us a template, you can edit all the content but if you want to do more bespoke designs, you will need 'Designer' access, which A, comes at a cost (not huge) and B, will take a bit of learning.
There are also limitations with number of collections, number of items in a collection, number of fields per collection. This refers the CMS function.
In practice this means when creating a CMS page (similar to a post in Wordpress), you:
Webflow sites look better, they're easier to manage, and if you want to work with us, we don't work with Wordpress anymore. Migrate with us or we can recommend some great Wordpress agencies.
